Over the past four years, PANDA has built a robust Community Champion Network which has now grown to over 340 members with lived experience of perinatal mental vulnerability and illness. This Network informs our day to day activity, helps develop national guidance and advocates for awareness opportunities and service models. Through this Network we firmly place lived experience at the centre of everything we do.
We also know that health professionals have a lived experience of working with families affected by these illnesses, and in helping to shape the service system that wraps around your clients and the care that you provide. That is why the team at PANDA have identified the need to engage with Clinical Champions from across the country so they can join our Community Champions in the important work of building a better system of care for expecting and new parents.
As someone who works with families, you will no doubt have faced many challenges in this extraordinary year. While some parts of Australia look to be doing OK right now, others are still in significant lockdown, and we know this can have a huge impact on how you care for expecting and new parents. At PANDA, we do not want to increase the pressures faced by our valued health care providers, but we do want to provide opportunities to get involved in improving peoples’ experience of care.
We would therefore like to offer you an opportunity to broaden your impact and help us to build a community of passionate clinical leaders who work in or interact with the field of perinatal mental health.
As the operator of Australia’s only National Helpline that supports families affected by perinatal mental illness, PANDA has developed a unique understanding of the mental health vulnerabilities of families in the perinatal period.
However there are still many things we can understand better – in particular, the perspective of those working within the health system, hard working professionals like yourself who are doing your best to support expecting and new parents.
We would love to harness your passion and expertise to inform:
- Position statements and recommendation papers on key issues relevant to perinatal mental health in Australia
- Service planning, design and innovation
- Public health (awareness raising) campaigns
- Community and health professional education programs
- Parent and health professional resources.
- Understanding of systemic barriers to perinatal mental health care, to inform our work and others
- Government approaches
By registering here you can select issues and topics related to the perinatal period that you’re happy for us to reach out to you about. You can also limit/ indicate how often we contact you.
Please note: this is a volunteer role, however there may be times in which we are able to offer reimbursement for targeted activity and projects. This will be made clear in each approach made to you.
PANDA is committed to a society where perinatal mental health is valued and understood, and where stigma and systemic barriers to seeking help no longer exist. As a Clinical Champion, you can help us make this vision a reality.
