Results

These results show that your loved one may be experiencing perinatal anxiety and/or depression. We recommend that they seek support for their mental health and wellbeing as soon as possible.

If you have indicated that your loved one has suicidal thoughts or thoughts of harm coming to their baby, please know that these are common symptoms of severe anxiety and/or depression. They do not make your loved one a bad parent, but are a clear sign that they need to reach out for help as soon as possible.

This checklist does not give a diagnosis, only a health professional can provide this.

If your loved one has indicated that they feel physically and/or emotionally unsafe at home or in their relationship, help is available. Please call 1800 737 732 (1800 RESPECT).

If you are worried about your partner or loved one’s emotional wellbeing, we encourage you to talk with them about your concerns. You can also seek support or advice yourself, for example from a friend, family member or health professional.

Talk with friends or family

Consider talking about how you are feeling with someone you trust. This might be a friend or family member. Once you start talking you might be surprised at how many others have had similar experiences and the support they can provide you.

Talk with your doctor

Talking with your doctor can be an important step to getting the help you need. They should be able to give you non-judgemental support, assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care and treatment. They can also refer you to specialists such as a counsellor, psychologist or psychiatrist.
