Need Help Now?
Options for urgent contact with services:
If you or your family member needs immediate medical intervention or you are concerned about your own or your family member's wellbeing because of the symptoms of post or antenatal depression please take one of the following steps:
- Initially make sure that you or your family member and baby/children are safe and not at risk of any harm. This might mean ensuring that a friend or another family member is with you or your family member at all times.
- Seek medical treatment as soon as possible by either contacting your medical practitioner, present at the Emergency Department of your local General Hospital or make contact with the Crisis Assessment Treatment Team (CAT Team) within the Mental Health Services in your local area - for contact details call your local hospital or contact Lifeline.
- Should you meet the criteria for the CAT Team service a worker may visit you at home or speak with you on the telephone to assess your immediate needs for assessment and treatment and support you to access appropriate mental health services.
When the situation has stabilized try to make contact with your General Practitioner or Psychiatrist and Maternal and Child Health Nurse to let them know what has happened and to access ongoing support such as counselling or support groups.
Make contact with PANDA for support and contact details for ongoing support services such as counsellors, support groups and community services.
